A day-old baby girl has been found abandoned in a plantain farm at Offinso Awisam in the Ashanti Region.
According to residents, the baby was discovered on Tuesday morning on a farm at the back of a house.
Eyewitnesses in an interview with this reporter said the baby was discovered by a woman who later reported the incident to the police in the area.
"Now authorities in the area have taken over investigating the matter, however they are yet to find out who the mother is," a resident stated.
He noted they suspect the baby was abandoned by someone from outside the community.
"There was a funeral here which brought hundreds of mourners, and we suspect the mother was among them," he added.
Residents have called on authorities and child protection agencies to ensure the baby is protected and taken care of while investigations continue.
