The Head of National Commission on Small Arms & Light Weapons (NACSA), Yendi Municipal Office, Mr. Abdurahim Mohammed Mutaka, has noted that young people can play a crucial role in preventing violence through responsible behaviour and informed decision-making.

He stated this during a collaboration exercise with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Wednesday.

Celebrating this year's Citizenship Week, NACSA and NCCE visited the Islamic No. 1 Junior High School and SDA Junior High School in the Yendi Municipality as part of their public sensitization engagements

The programme highlighted the important connection between responsible citizenship and peaceful communities, encouraging students to see themselves not only as future leaders but also as active contributors to peace and security.

Speaking on the consequences of gun violence, Mr. Mutaka emphasized the dangers of illicit firearms to communities and the role of the young in preventing violence.

The NCCE, in turn, facilitated discussions on civic responsibility and the importance of upholding the values and principles enshrined in Ghana's Constitution.

NACSA applauds the Yendi Municipal Directorate of the NCCE for strengthening collaboration to promote civic education and a gun-violence-free society.
