The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, has restructured his personal office and appointed former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, as Chief of Staff.
The appointment places the former Suame Member of Parliament at the centre of Dr. Bawumia's political operations as the NPP begins preparations towards the 2028 general elections.
His appointment as Chief of Staff effectively makes him one of the most influential figures within Dr. Bawumia's political structure and signals the former Vice President's strategy to strengthen his team following the NPP's defeat in the 2024 general election.
Political observers believe Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu's extensive legislative experience, deep understanding of party structures, and strong grassroots network will be vital in efforts to reorganise and rebuild the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Beyond Ghana's Parliament, he also served as Vice Chairman of the Global Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) and held a leadership role within the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association International.
As part of the restructuring, Dr. Bawumia has also announced several key appointments to his team. Former Member of Parliament, Opare Ansah, has been named Director in Charge of Identifiable Activities, while Peter Mac Manu will serve as Director in Charge of Political Strategy.
Former Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company, Fred Oware, has been appointed Political Advisor, while Nana Akomea will oversee Communication and Branding.
Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has been assigned responsibility for Policy Coordination and will be assisted by Evon Hughes.
Former Deputy Minister, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, will lead Organisation and Youth Inclusion, while Ekua Amoako has been appointed Spokesperson.
The new appointments form part of Dr. Bawumia's efforts to build a strong organisational structure as the NPP prepares for the challenges and opportunities ahead of the 2028 elections.
