Mahama receives credentials from new Russian Ambassador

President John Dramani Mahama has received the credentials of the newly appointed Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Andrei Ordash, during a ceremony at the Presidency in Accra.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation also presented the letters of recall of his predecessor as part of the official diplomatic process.

Addressing the ceremony, President Mahama highlighted the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Russia, describing the relationship as one that dates back to the early years of Ghana's independence.

He acknowledged Russia's significant contribution to Ghana's development, particularly in the area of education, noting that the partnership had benefited generations of Ghanaians.

The President expressed Ghana's interest in deepening cooperation with Russia across a range of sectors and reaffirmed the country's commitment to strengthening dialogue with Moscow on issues relating to peace and international security.

Ghana and Russia have enjoyed diplomatic relations since the 1960s, with the former Soviet Union playing an important role in supporting Ghana's development efforts in areas such as education, infrastructure, and industrialisation.

Over the years, thousands of Ghanaians have received training and education in Russian universities, with many graduates going on to serve in key positions in academia, medicine, engineering, and public service.

The presentation of credentials by Ambassador Ordash marks a new chapter in diplomatic relations between the two countries as they seek to expand cooperation and strengthen existing ties.
