The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ho, Hon. Stephen Adom, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining Ho’s enviable status as the “Oxygen City of Ghana” through improved sanitation and strict enforcement of environmental by-laws.
Addressing the General Assembly Meeting on Monday, Hon. Adom said the Assembly is determined to ensure good hygiene and total sanitation practices across the municipality. To support this, he revealed that the Assembly has procured four new motorbikes and a tricycle with accessories for its Environmental Health Unit to enhance monitoring and supervision.
He explained that the gesture is intended to motivate staff and boost their morale for optimum delivery of their core mandate. “We want to jealously guard our enviable accolade as the only Oxygen City of Ghana,” he stated.
As part of efforts to strengthen compliance, the MCE disclosed that the Assembly will soon form a Sanitation Taskforce to clamp down on indiscipline and on residents who refuse to abide by sanitation laws and by-laws. He added that the Assembly will continue to provide the necessary logistics to enable staff to perform effectively.
The MCE also used the occasion to commend the Mawuleme Sanitation Movement, a group of young volunteers who have been supporting the Assembly’s sanitation efforts out of their own volition. He praised their initiative in helping to clean the environment and beautify roundabouts, describing their work as a shining example of community patriotism and collective action.
Hon. Adom said the Assembly is in the process of formally integrating the group into its main sanitation system and will support them to do more. He called on other well-meaning individuals to join the campaign to make Ho the number one destination for sanitation compliance in the country.
The MCE assured residents that the “Oxygen City” agenda remains on course, and the Assembly will continue to implement measures that promote cleanliness, discipline, and civic responsibility throughout the municipality.
