Gov’t deploying digital systems to boost revenue – Prof Opoku Agyemang

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang says the government is rolling out modern, technology-driven public financial management systems aimed at improving revenue mobilisation and blocking leakages.

She explained that the introduction of digital inspection systems at the country's ports is part of efforts to detect under-invoicing and reduce smuggling activities.

Speaking at the Controller and Accountant-General's Department (CAGD) 2026 Annual Conference on Thursday, April 23, the Vice President stressed that the success of these reforms depends on strict discipline in their implementation.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that the government is deploying AI-powered trade analytics and digital VAT systems to strengthen revenue mobilisation, improve compliance, and reduce financial leakages.

“The government of Ghana has shifted towards technology-driven public financial management. The future of fiscal governance is digital, but it must be digital with discipline,” she said.

She further indicated that recent economic gains, including the sharp drop in inflation, are a result of deliberate fiscal reforms and improved public financial management.

“Inflation declined from 23.8% in December 2024 to 3.2% as of March this year. The cedi has stabilised significantly, supported by improved reserves.

More importantly, Ghana has achieved a primary fiscal surplus of 1.6%, thus reversing previous deficits. This is the result of deliberate reforms and improved public financial management systems,” she added.
