A legal confrontation has emerged between two political groups, Base Ghana First LBG and The Base Movement, over the alleged unauthorised use of names, branding and official materials.

Base Ghana First LBG, which split from The Base Movement founded by Alexander Kofi Adu popularly known as Agya Koo, claims the latter is misrepresenting itself and using its identity to mislead the public.

In a statement of case filed before a High Court in Accra, the plaintiff explained that both factions were originally part of The Base Movement but broke away following internal disputes, including disagreements over decision-making and what it described as procedural abuse at the leadership level.

According to the filing, the chairman of The Base Movement, despite members serving as national executives, allegedly suspended the activities of the group and removed them from official communication platforms without due process.

The chairman is further accused of constituting a nine-member executive council in violation of the association’s established rules and objectives.

Base Ghana First LBG maintains that these actions prompted aggrieved members to establish a new entity in March 2026.

The writ, signed by Augustine Gyamfi, states that the new group has since expanded rapidly across the country, driven by what it describes as strong commitment from its members.

However, the plaintiff alleges that The Base Movement has continued to use the name “The Base Ghana First” on souvenirs, official items and signage at its headquarters, creating the impression that both groups are affiliated.

“The plaintiff states that the defendant is misleading the public, followers and potential investors of the plaintiff company with the intent of riding at the back of the plaintiff company,” the suit said.

It further accuses the defendant of falsely presenting both organisations as one and the same.

The plaintiff argues that unless the court intervenes, The Base Movement will continue to benefit from its identity and goodwill without justification.

Base Ghana First LBG is therefore seeking a perpetual injunction to restrain the defendant from using the name “The Base Ghana First” in any dealings with the public or third parties.

It is also asking the court to bar the defendant from using its logo or any similar marks, and is seeking general damages as well as legal costs.
