The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has impounded 40 vehicles at Tema Harbour following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered the use of fraudulent Drive from Port (DP) stickers.
In a statement issued on Friday, April 17, the Authority said investigations also revealed cases where genuine DP stickers had been placed on vehicles with mismatched documentation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicles were imported by CFAO. However, the DVLA noted that an agent engaged to clear the vehicles on behalf of the company allegedly used unlawful methods, leading to the irregularities detected.
According to the Authority, a recent drop in DP sticker issuance at the ports raised suspicion and triggered further investigations, culminating in the operation.
“The Authority recorded a significant increase in the issuance of DP stickers from an average of 2,000 per month to approximately 15,000 in October 2025. In recent months, however, a noticeable decline in issuance at the ports prompted further investigations,” the statement said.
The DVLA added that it is working with National Security to probe the matter and strengthen efforts to curb fraudulent practices within the vehicle importation and registration system.
It also urged vehicle importers and industry stakeholders to exercise due diligence and strictly comply with established procedures, assuring the public of its commitment to protecting the integrity of Ghana’s vehicle administration system.
