Two charitable organisations, Engage Now Africa and Charter One Charities have supported Pediatorkopey Basic School, an island community deprived school deprived of with a Pre-School building and kitchen rehabilitation project.
In his opening address, the Program Director of Engage Now Africa, Afasi Kormlah said his desire to help the Pre-School is based on three key thematic areas of life; affordable housing, free and condusive educational environment and free health care for all Island schools children.
He said this first initiative targets full education for promising school children on the island, with future plans of opportunities for excelling students to study abroad.
The project covered rehabilitation of the Pediatorkopey Basic Pre-School as well as building a befitting kitchen for the school as well as provide free solar rechargeable lamps for all students of the school to aid night learning.
Both charitable organizations are also keenly working hard to put and end to child labour and put a stop to the practice of young kids from the Island fishing along the Volta Lake and other river bodies, where young children are exploited by parents who exchange the kids’ manual labour for money.
They therefore urgently advised all parents on the island to desist from such child and human trafficking, which is against the fundamental human rights of the children.
Madams Brenda and Barbara Appiah, both coordinators of the two organisations, stressed and strongly advised parents to desist from such child labour practices and urged all parents on the island communities to desist from such barbaric acts against children as is strongly against their human rights.
Present was the chief of the Pediatorkopey community, Nene Ofoe Gberbie who cut the sod for the opening of the ultra-modern kitchen for the Pre-School.
The hardworking Assistant Headmaster of the school, Mr. Sebbie Gershon Otu alias Osofo and few other teachers of the Basic School and JHS namely Mrs. Roseline Sogah - a hardworking basic three teacher - and Mr. Albert Nene Agudey Korletey alias Sir Albert urged all students to learn hard, become the vessels of development of the Pediatorkopey island and to perform well in academics as comparable to formal students like Theophilus Kugblenu, Ofoe Kugblenu, Adzigodi Dennis Narteh, Ayornu Amatey, Godwin Kugblenu, Agbozo Daniel and footballers like Daniel Lomotey that had good grades to put the name of the school in the international limelight.
The hard working Assemblymember for the Aflive Electoral Area, Hon. Evans Larwerh Adusu, also from the same island in an exclusive interview said he was happy for the good initiative by both organisations and pleaded for them to extend such a nice gesture to other schools at Aflive /Azizakpey/Tuanikorpey and Alorkpem as well.
