Perfect Series Basic School Assessment contest announces GH¢25,000 ultimate prize

The Chief Executive Officer of Star Media Plus and Perfect Series, Pastor Philip Sarpong, has announced GH¢25,000 as the ultimate prize for the 2026 edition of the Perfect Series Basic School Assessment Contest.

The announcement was made during the third edition and first centralised contest of the programme held on March 5, 2026 at Anglican Senior High School, Kumasi.

The event attracted pupils, teachers and school representatives from several basic schools within and around Kumasi.

Addressing participants, Pastor Sarpong said the contest was introduced to promote academic excellence and encourage healthy competition among pupils at the basic school level.

The competition involves pupils from Basic One to Basic Six, providing them with an opportunity to assess their knowledge and strengthen their academic abilities.

He explained that in previous years, the competition had been conducted within individual schools. However, organisers decided to introduce a centralised format this year to enable pupils from different schools to compete at the same venue and gain broader exposure.

“This year, we decided to bring several schools together at one location to compete. This helps pupils build confidence, interact with their peers and develop a stronger spirit of academic competition,” he stated.

Pastor Sarpong noted that the contest is carefully structured to ensure fairness across all levels of the basic school system.

Each class from Basic One to Basic Six is given a set of questions specifically designed to match their academic level.

He further explained that for a school to qualify for the next stage of the competition, at least three of its pupils must score above 50 marks in the assessment.

According to him, the competition will be conducted in stages, beginning at the sector level before progressing to higher rounds and eventually culminating in a national contest where the overall winner will be crowned.

Pastor Sarpong said the decision to introduce the GH¢25,000 ultimate prize is intended to motivate pupils to take their studies more seriously while encouraging schools to better prepare their learners for the competition.

He also disclosed that plans are underway to introduce scholarships and other educational support packages for outstanding pupils in future editions of the programme.

The CEO called on the government, non-governmental organisations, corporate institutions and philanthropists to support the initiative in order to expand its reach and impact.

He emphasised that with stronger partnerships, the programme could reach more schools and help nurture academically talented pupils across the country.

The Perfect Series Basic School Assessment Contest is gradually gaining recognition as an emerging academic platform aimed at strengthening foundational education and promoting excellence among young learners across Ghana.
