President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, visited two survivors of the recent terrorist attack in Burkina Faso who are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the survivors were part of a group of Ghanaian tomato traders travelling in a truck that was ambushed by armed bandits. The attackers reportedly separated the men on board, killed them, and set the vehicle on fire.
The President, accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, expressed his condolences and assured the victims that the government would cover their medical expenses.
Mr Mahama, who had earlier been in Takoradi on official duties, proceeded directly to the hospital upon landing in Accra to interact with the survivors and receive first hand details of the incident.
Seven Ghanaians who lost their lives in the attack have since been buried. The remaining survivors were airlifted back to Ghana by the Ghana Armed Forces.
All survivors are receiving counselling and other necessary support, while those injured continue to undergo medical treatment.
