The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr. Samuel Nartey George has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting pilot testing of the Akuna Wallet initiative with local content creators.
During a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Stellar Development Foundation, Ms. Denelle Dixon last Thursday, he praised the initiative emphasizing that such innovations would enhance financial access for young creatives and significantly contribute to Ghana’s growing digital economy.
Ms. Denelle Dixon explained that the Akuna Wallet, developed under the supervision of the Bank of Ghana, allows content creators and freelancers to receive international payments within seconds and convert them into Ghana cedis through a secure, blockchain-based platform.
She noted that the wallet also provides virtual U.S. bank accounts, enabling users to monetize content on global platforms like X, Facebook, and TikTok without relying on intermediaries.
“The Akuna Wallet, which is part of a broader ecosystem including Akuna Studios and Akuna Pods, is expected to be fully launched by December 2025, following regulatory clearance,” she said.
