The Managing News Editor of the Newscenta newspaper, Elvis Darko, has described Nana Kwame Bediako’s New Force movement as the best political alternative for Ghana’s youth outside of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, despite being a newcomer to the country's political landscape, Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, made a strong statement in the 2024 general elections by polling nearly three times more votes than former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily show on Monday, October 20, Mr. Darko said the New Force leader’s message strongly appealed to many young Ghanaians who have grown disillusioned with the political duopoly.
“For the young person really looking for a party that represents their voice, Cheddar’s New Force is the best option,” he stated.
“His message has resonated with a section of the youth who want something fresh and visionary. If Cheddar reorganises himself, brings in influential people like Shatta Wale, and builds a strong team, he could surprise many in the next elections.”
Mr. Darko added that Cheddar’s rapid political rise was remarkable, considering his limited campaign time and the mystery that initially surrounded his movement through the faceless billboards.
“For the first time on the political scene, someone like Cheddar defeated a stalwart like Alan and secured three times his votes,” he noted.
“Remember, for months before the elections, people only saw masked billboards without knowing who was behind them. Yet, within just six months of revealing himself, he managed to make such an impact. That tells you the level of youth interest and the potential for a third force in Ghana’s politics.”
