Renowned Ghanaian contemporary choral musician and Reverend Minister, Rev. Newlove Kojo Annan, has called on believers to identify and utilize their God-given talents to serve others and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Ahomka 99.5 FM in Elmina, Rev. Annan emphasized that every individual possesses a unique gift intended to uplift others and contribute to a greater common good.
“Each of us has been blessed with a talent meant to serve humanity. When we play our roles faithfully, we help and uplift others while advancing God’s divine plan,” he said.
Sharing his personal experience, Rev. Annan explained that he discovered his calling as a songwriter and composer, using his musical talent to inspire and minister through others who perform his works.
He revealed that many of his compositions are inspired by real-life experiences and moments of reflection. His popular song, “Your Grace and Mercy,” he said, was written during a period of ill health.
“I composed it while on a flight, reflecting deeply on God’s grace and mercy through my recovery,” he recounted.
Another of his notable works, “Weyi Nti Na Yɛ Sɔ No,” was inspired by a traditional event attended by a prominent chief. Drawing from Ghanaian cultural expressions, Rev. Annan crafted the song as an act of reverence, likening royal praise appellations to the way believers honor God in worship.
Beyond music, Rev. Annan is also an author and scholar dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of church music in Ghana. His published works include “Church Music in Ghana” and “Music in Worship and Ministry,” written to guide future generations and deepen understanding of the role of music in Christian ministry.
Rev. Annan encouraged young Christians, particularly those with artistic and musical abilities, to remain faithful stewards of their talents and use them as tools for service, inspiration, and spiritual growth.
