Mr Bright Asamoah Brefo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency, has condemned the wanton destruction of over 20 hectares of cocoa farm by the Forestry Commission at Aboduabo in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
He said the destruction of the farm left some farmers severely injured, sparking outrage and concern among residents and stakeholders.
“The destruction of the farm was not only an attack on the livelihoods of hardworking farmers, but also a direct assault on the economic backbone of the municipality, since cocoa remain the livelihood of the people and must be safeguarded at all cost,” he said.
Speaking in an interview, the MP expressed deep sympathy to the affected farmers and their relatives.
Mr Brefo assured them that he had already engaged the Forestry Commission, Municipal Police Command, Regional Minister and other law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to face justice.
Mr Wilbert Petty Brentum, the Western North Regional Minister, promised to ensure thorough investigations into the matter to help bring the culprits to book.
