The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has reaffirmed the Ghana Armed Forces’ readiness to confront any security threat facing the country, assuring the public of the military’s vigilance and strength.
Speaking during a working visit to the Northern Region as part of his nationwide familiarisation tour, Major General Gbetanu emphasised the strategic importance of his engagements with troops and commanders across various army units.
“Since assuming office as Army Chief, I have embarked on a familiarisation and operational visit to all army units,” he said.“This is my 10th visit, and it is intended to help me assess their operational, administrative, and logistical situations. It also provides an opportunity to connect with troops deployed at the frontlines and motivate them to give their best in protecting our motherland, Ghana.”
His visit to the Northern Command Headquarters in Tamale offered an opportunity to review operational readiness and boost troop morale, particularly for those serving in frontline roles.
As part of the tour, the Army Chief inspected key installations and ongoing military training activities in the region. He visited the 6th Infantry Battalion and the Army Special Operations Training School (ASOTS) in Daboya. He also called on the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari II, in a gesture aimed at enhancing civil-military cooperation and building stronger ties with traditional leadership.
Addressing the media during the visit, Major General Gbetanu stressed the Armed Forces’ unwavering preparedness to defend Ghana’s sovereignty against any form of aggression.
“The Ghana Armed Forces is fully prepared to contain any threat—whether external or internal. Troops are deployed across the country in strategic positions to respond to any threat that may confront us as a nation,” he assured.
The visit marks a continuation of the Army Chief’s mission to strengthen the operational framework of the Ghana Army while fostering unity and motivation among personnel nationwide.
