Former Minister for Railways Development, John Peter Amewu has been released following his arrest by National Security operatives on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Amewu was reportedly detained for questioning in connection with the $2 million Sky Train Project, an initiative that failed to materialize despite significant government investment. Sources told Citi News that his arrest was part of ongoing investigations into the controversial deal.
The Sky Train Project was initially intended to introduce a modern urban rail transport system in Ghana. However, during a press briefing on Monday, March 24, 2025, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, confirmed that the project had failed to meet its objectives despite the substantial funds committed.
Dr. Ayine further disclosed that legal proceedings against individuals implicated in the Sky Train scandal would commence by mid-April 2025.
He assured the public that the investigation was progressing, stating that authorities were determined to recover misappropriated public funds and ensure accountability.
As the case unfolds, all eyes remain on the government’s next steps in addressing the failed project and holding those responsible accountable.
