Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused President John Mahama of violating parliamentary procedures by having the Secretary to the President, rather than the President himself, communicate ministerial nominations to Parliament.

During the vetting of ministerial nominees on January 13, 2025, Afenyo-Markin stated, “May I refer us to order 65 one of our rules, which provides that communication from the President to the house shall be to the speaker in writing, signed by the President, or in the absence of the President, by the Vice President, or by a minister authorized by the President.”

He continued, “So where from this letter from his secretary to Parliament? So President Mahama’s government has breached the Standing Orders of this house.”

The ongoing vetting process involves the examination of nominees for key ministerial positions, including the Finance Minister, Energy Minister, and Attorney General.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament is conducting these sessions to assess the qualifications and suitability of the nominees for their respective roles.

The outcome of this vetting process will determine the approval or rejection of the nominees who are Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for Finance, John Jinapor for Energy and Dominic Ayine for Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
