An official of the Electoral Commission (EC) has been arrested in the Kintampo South Constituency for electoral offences.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect identified as Dery Joseph has been grabbed for issuing about 15 ballot papers that omitted the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and first presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to voters.
The Police said the incident happened at the Ampesika-Bayere polling station.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested an Electoral Commission (EC) official at Kintampo South Constituency in the Bono East Region, for electoral offences during the ongoing general elections.
“The suspect, Dery Joseph, is under investigation for issuing about 15 ballot papers to voters that omitted the first presidential candidate at the Ampesika-Bayere polling station,” the Ghana Police Service said in a press release.
The arrest falls in line with the assurance of the Ghana Police Service to oversee a fair, transparent and peaceful process of today’s election.
Policemen are scattered across the various polling stations to ensure the process is smooth and peaceful.
