I worked with him and Mahama is not corrupt — Spio-Garbrah

While exonerating former President John Mahama of corruption allegations, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has dared elements in government to prove corruption against the NDC presidential candidate.

Endorsing the party’s presidential candidate for the December 7 polls, Dr. Spio-Garbrah urged the electorate to be weary of smear campaigns against Mr. Mahama and the opposition NDC, admonishing Ghanaians to reject the ruling New Patriotic Party presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

According to the one-time presidential aspirant of the NDC, the modus operandi of the NPP from the days of Kwame Nkrumah is to lie against their opponents. He indicated that the NPP now tags everyone in NDC, including John Mahama although, there is no evidence.

"When Mahama was the President, the NPP called him all kinds of names. They said he has stolen this or that, and has hotels in Dubai. When they came to power, they had seven years to investigate him. Bring proof against him for his alleged offences.

“Where is the proof of all that they claim he has done wrong?" the former Trade and Industries Minister quizzed on “Face-to-Face” with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV.

He stated, " Up till now, nothing has come against him [Mahama] or demonstrated he is either an evil person or was a criminal person or a thief in any form or shape."

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, therefore warned Ghanaians against NPP's propaganda less than a month to this year's crucial polls.

“NDC is not there to steal the public purse. The president of Ghana [Akufo-Addo] said he will protect the public purse, with Dr Bawumia next to him. Yet, they have looted the public purse, that is what they have done, looted, everywhere they steal anything, they can steal.

"Bawumia will never be president if he continues to tell lies like that," Spio-Garbrah stated.
