The Founder of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has reacted to the disqualification of the Amenfi Central Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joana Gyan Cudjoe from contesting the upcoming election.
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe after a High Court injunction was issued against her candidacy.
Reacting to this, Franklin Cudjoe has accused the EC of attempting to disenfranchise Amenfi Central's people.
According to him, the disqualification of the NDC Parliamentary Candidate proves his long held view that the EC is incredibly innately fraudulent and gerrymandery-happy.
“I keep telling you guys that this EC is incredibly innately fraudulent and gerrymandery-happy. This is how my SALL was prepared for disenfranchisement. Shine your eyes oo,” Franklin Cudjoe said in a post on Facebook.
Disqualification of Joana Gyan Cudjoe
The injunction, dated May 31, 2024, was filed in a case titled Gyedu Frimpong & 4 Others v. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress & the Electoral Commission (Suit No. E12/36/24) in the Sekondi High Court.
The court order restrains Joana Cudjoe and the NDC from holding her out as the duly elected parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central until the final determination of the case.
The order specifically prohibits Joana Gyan Cudjoe from presenting herself as the NDC candidate and also restricts the NDC and the EC from recognising or granting any rights or privileges to her in relation to the parliamentary election.
Notably, the injunction has not been stayed or vacated, compelling the Electoral Commission to comply with the court’s ruling.
As a result, the EC has formally informed Joana Gyan Cudjoe of her disqualification from the 2024 general election as the parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central.
This development is likely to have significant implications on the NDC’s campaign in the constituency as the matter awaits final resolution in court.
