The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, has announced that all five health projects in the Ashanti Region are completed, with equipment installed and awaiting commissioning.
He disclosed this when he embarked on a site visit to Sekyere Afram Plains Hospital on Thursday.
He stated that officials from the Ghana Health Service have examined the hospital and are currently awaiting a technical handover to ensure that health professionals would be educated on how to use the equipment installed before the project can be commissioned.
Mr Osei-Mensah noted that while the project is complete with all equipment placed, the government is not in a hurry to commission it until the technical handover is completed, with medical professionals trained and patients admitted.
“This approach is necessary to prevent a situation where training is rather done after commissioning, thereby causing the public to question the reason why the hospital is not able to admit patients immediately after commissioning” he added.
Mr Osei-Mensah further stated that the government has worked hard to complete and commission inherited projects, particularly those in the health sector. The government inherited about eight hospitals and has completed and commissioned most of them.
Projects completed include Bekwai Hospital, Fomena Hospital, Tepa Hospital, Konongo Hospital, and Kumawu Hospital.
He expressed hope that the Sewua Hospital could also be opened this year.
