Aspiring National Chairman of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has reiterated his commitment serve the party.

Though he is not wealthy compared to others in the party, the current party chief scribe said that would not be a stumbling block to becoming the National Chairman.

On Wednesday, December 14, General Mosquito, as he is known in politics, told Kwame Minkah on Accra-based Power FM’s "Dwaboase" morning show that his interest is not to amass wealth but to see his party win power and bring development to the suffering Ghanaians.

According to him, he has always rejected ministerial appointments in NDC governments after he was appointed as a deputy minister under the late President Rawlings’ regime.

"I have dedicated myself to the service of the party." After I served as a minister in President Rawlings’ government, I turned down all offers that came my way to serve as a minister in our previous NDC governments. "In all of these, I have continued to serve the party as a general secretary," he said.

He stressed, "So I told the party people about my intentions to lead the party, and I was frank with them that I am not rich but I have goodwill."

He alleged that the ruling NPP is sponsoring some aspirants in the NDC race to break into the party.

For him, he will stick to fund-raising activities to solicit for funds to push his message to delegates across the country, adding that he has no money to share like others are doing.

"As we speak, some persons in the NPP are carrying huge sums of money looking for some of our candidates they can buy and plant within the system, so I want all my activities to be transparent, just as they have known me over the years," General Mosquito alleged.

"I have some people saying that while they are sharing money with people, I am now begging for funds, but I never got bothered because the contribution from the app has helped me," he noted.

The opposition party will on Saturday, December 17 converge at the Accra Sports Stadium to elect new national officers who will lead the party into 2024 general elections.
