Constituency polls: NDC declare elections illegal, null and void in Atiwa West, Afram Plains South and Mpraeso

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Elections Directorate has announced that results from three Constituencies will be cancelled.

The decision has been announced after the affected Constituencies violated pre-election directives to postpone their elections.

The largest opposition party in the country is holding its Constituency-level elections this weekend.

Ahead of the elections, the party in an official statement announced that some Constituencies are not allowed to proceed with the elections due to various disputes.

Today, three constituencies including Atiwa West, Afram Plains South, and Mpraeso reportedly went ahead to conduct their elections although they had been directed to put it on hold.

In a release reacting to the elections, the NDC National Elections Directorate says it has declared the election null and void.

“The National Election Directorate wishes to place on record that the said purported elections in those constituencies are illegal and hence, null and void.

“The party does not and will not recognize those elections and their outcomes,” part of the NDC release has said.

According to the NDC, the decision includes other constituencies who have violated other directives of the Elections Directorate in the conduct of their elections, particularly the inclusion of branches that are excluded from partaking in the elections and the exclusion or inclusion of persons who have been either qualified or disqualified from being on the ballot sheet by the appeals process.

The party says it shall investigate the unsanctioned elections in these constituencies and punish all the culprits involved.
