Organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) have officially announced nominees for the Best Group of the Year category, following public outcry over its initial omission from the 2026 nominations list.
The announcement brings relief to several music groups and industry stakeholders who had raised concerns after the category was excluded when nominees were first unveiled in March 2026.
The four groups now in contention are Soul Winners, Lali x Lola, Keche, and Bethel Revival Choir.
The omission had sparked reactions across the music industry, with former winners Keche—made up of Andrew Kofi Cudjoe and Joshua Kojo Ampah—publicly questioning the decision. In a post on X, the duo expressed disappointment at being invited to the nominations event but receiving no recognition, hinting at possible bias within the awards scheme.
Music duo Lali x Lola also took formal action by petitioning the TGMA board. They argued that excluding the Best Group category could undermine efforts to revive and sustain group acts within Ghana’s music scene.
Their concerns were echoed by industry stakeholders, who pointed to the growing presence of groups such as DopeNation, Keche, Team Eternity, and Bhad Mayors as evidence of a resurgence in group performances.
Following mounting pressure, the organisers have reinstated the category and confirmed the nominees, signaling responsiveness to stakeholder concerns and a commitment to inclusivity within the awards.
The main ceremony of the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2026.
