Nigerian artist Shallipopi has threatened to boycott future editions of The Headies Awards following what he described as a humiliating experience at the 17th edition of the prestigious Afrobeats ceremony held in Lagos on Sunday.
Shallipopi, who lost the hotly contested "Next Rated" award to frequent collaborator Odumodublvck, found some consolation when his hit song Cast was announced as the winner of "Best Rap Single of the Year."
However, the moment was marred by confusion and embarrassment when the organizers reportedly ran out of award plaques midway through the ceremony. As a result, the presenter simply shook Shallipopi’s hand on stage, with no trophy presented.
Taking to his X page on Monday, Shallipopi expressed his frustration over the incident, calling it disrespectful and unprofessional. He vowed never to attend the award show again.
The music star wrote: “The next one if una see me make I bend.
“I nor go even lie for una sef, I nor want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category. Me, Shallipopi I nor be rapper.”
