MAAME Ewurafua Hawkson, a 22-year-old student, was in the early hours of yesterday, crowned Miss Ghana 2000 from among 19 contestants.

Ninteen-year-old Ama Abrefi-Agyeman, also a student, placed second while 23-year-old Naa Koshie Heward-Mills, yet another student, took the third position.

For her prize, Miss Ghana 2000 is the owner of a brand new VW Golf 4 salon car, a two-bedroom house with a fully-fitted kitchen, ticket to the Miss World pageant, a ¢3 million cash award and ¢300,000 monthly allowance for a year.

She also received ¢1m from Akosombo Textiles for winning the most spectacular crown.

Additionally, Miss Ghana 2000 will receive an $11,000 package from Hope One Project, an international body based in Switzerland, which includes a return air ticket to that country, hotel accomodation and per diem for the Miss World pageant.

Second-placed Ama received a set of furniture, a TV/Video deck and ¢2.5 million while Naa Koshie was rewarded with a set of furniture, double door fridge, a cooker and ¢2 million.

The remaining contestants received ¢2 million each and other gifts from the donors.

In the special award category, a 24-year-old French tutor, Opheilia Mensah, won Miss Personality, sponsored by Accra Brewery Limited, Naa Koshie won the Miss Eloquence award sponsored by Joy FM while the award for Miss Talent, was won by Sarah Abaiki Djieagu, a 23-year-old student. It was sponsored by Kwasaf Development Consultancy Limited.

Each of these awards carried a cash prize of ¢1million.

All the contestants took part in a round to display their swim wear before they did their individual talent hunt. The third round was for answering questions.

The girls were great just as the Mcs for the night — Kwame Sefa Kanyi and Bridgette Dzigbenuku.

At the end of the third round, the number of contestants was pruned down to the perfect eight who started on a clean slate on the judges score sheet to compete for a round of highlife contest before delivering their messages. When Maame Ewurafua Hawkson was finally annouced as the winner, the cheers and applause indicated that the decision had gone down well with the patrons.

Of course, the show organised by Media Whizz Kids and sponsored by Club Beer, was not only for the beauties. An array of rollicking performers were also there to add pizzaz to it.

The likes of Blacapella, Mary Agyapong, Noyam, Adehyemma, Freestyle and Highlife dance champions for 2000 and Daddy Lumba, all put up exciting shows.

Club Pleasure 2000 is supported by Akosombo Textiles, Labadi Beach Hotel, Ghana Airways, Graphic Showbiz, GBC, Revlon, Hydraform Estate Ghana Limited, Irokko, VODI Technik Motors Limited and Joy FM.

Other sponsors are: Buck Press, Getrade Village Fresh Alata Samina, GeniSys, Vibe FM and Star Assurance Company Limited.
