Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has declared his readiness to submit himself to investigations by the Ghana Police Service, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) or any other competent investigative body over an allegation of extortion made against him by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said he expected those behind the allegation to formally report the matter to the appropriate authorities if they were convinced that he had committed an offence.
“I expect that if they muster the courage and report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,” he said.
He made the remarks in Parliament on Monday evening, August 24, 2026, during his opening address following the Speaker's recall of the House to consider urgent national matters.
The Minority Leader said he had chosen to allow the law to take its course rather than engage in a prolonged public dispute over the allegation.
According to him, he was confident that any investigation would establish the truth and clear his name if the allegations were found to be baseless.
Mr Afenyo-Markin also disclosed that he had initiated legal action against Mr Gyamfi and media organisations over the allegations.
He said he had caused a writ to be filed at the Accra High Court against the GoldBod Chief Executive and the Multimedia Group Limited, while another suit had been filed at the Achimota Circuit Court against Eric Agyei and Peace FM.
“I have every confidence that in the fullness of time, the courts will make the appropriate determination on these matters,” he said.
