CID yet to submit report on alleged assassination attempts on Kissi Agyebeng – Muntaka

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is yet to submit its report on allegations of assassination attempts against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng and the alleged assault of a senior official of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak disclosed that the Ministry of the Interior had formally directed the CID to investigate the reported incidents but was still awaiting the outcome.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 24, 2026, Mr Muntaka said he had recently followed up with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over the status of the investigation.

“I wrote to the CID. In fact, last week, I had to ask the IGP where we are with it, and they promised that they are coming up with a report,” he said.

The Minister explained that the investigations were commissioned to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incidents and determine the appropriate action based on the findings.

The development follows allegations that a senior official of the OSP was assaulted by police officers, as well as separate claims that the Special Prosecutor had survived two assassination attempts while performing his official duties.

The OSP's Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko, made the assassination claims during an appearance on the Newsfile programme in Accra on December 6.

Following the allegations, the Ministry of the Interior initiated separate investigations into the reported assassination attempts and the alleged assault.

Mr Muntaka's latest update indicates that the police inquiry remains ongoing, with the CID yet to submit its findings to the Ministry.

He assured that the Ministry would take the necessary steps once the police report is received.
