Former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been arrested by the police over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
The Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, saying it followed the circulation of a video on social media in which the former boxer allegedly threatened the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.
According to the police, Ayitey Powers was arrested on Monday and is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The Command said investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and determine the appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The police have also urged the public to refrain from sharing or circulating unverified information as investigations into the matter continue.
