Teshie Krobo Bukum Park was last Sunday turned into a mini festival ground with free music and dance by three local traditional groups.
In an energetic performance as part of activities marking 'Cultural Days in May' 2012, Shishinuloi Dance Ensemble, Adafitwaloi Cultural Troupe and African Jungle Cultural Troupe electrified the park, which was filled to capacity by residents and visitors alike.
The park, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, resonated with loud cheers as some members of the audience joined the dancers in what appeared to be a Teshie celebration, which commenced with competition of cards-playing.
Supporters and members of the winning group stormed the park amidst catcalls while celebrating their victory with dances. They received a huge applause as they weaved their way through the crowds and back onto the streets of Teshie.
Arterial Network Ghana, Institute for Music & Development, Accra Arts and Culture Network, with support from the Goethe-Institut and the Arterial Network Secretariat in South Africa initiated 'Cultural Days in May' in 2011.
It is an initiative of the African creative cities / cultural capital project supported by the Mayor of Accra and other African mayors. Consequently, 'Cultural Days in May' is one of the activities that have been undertaken in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Authority and other stakeholders in the quest to turn Accra into a creative/cultural city.
'Cultural Days in May' 2012, which was preceded by the Afro Jazz Week and the International Jazz Day, is being supported by the Goethe-Institut. It was organized by Arterial Network Ghana, Institute for Music & Development and Accra Arts and Culture Network.
