The National Identification Authority (NIA), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has commenced the nationwide Ghana Card registration exercise for Ghanaian children aged between 6 and 14 years in the Northern Region.
The exercise began on Thursday, June 11, following the completion of registration activities in the Volta and Oti regions, where a mop-up exercise is currently underway to capture eligible children who missed the initial registration period.
As part of the exercise, registration teams will visit both public and private schools across the region to ensure broad coverage, while children within the age bracket who are not in school can register at designated centres or schools within their communities.
"The National Identification Authority (NIA), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), wishes to inform the general public that the nationwide Ghana Card registration exercise for Ghanaian children aged 6-14 years will commence in the Northern Region on Thursday, 11th June 2026," the Authority said in a statement dated June 10.
The NIA indicated that registration would take place daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
According to the Authority, parents and guardians must present a child's original Birth Certificate, valid Ghanaian Passport or Certificate of Acquired Citizenship during registration.
Where such documents are unavailable, a parent, relative or legal guardian may complete an Oath of Identity form, while two Social Welfare Officers may vouch under oath for children without known relatives.
The Authority also encouraged parents and guardians to provide the child's NHIS card or NHIS number where available.
Persons presenting children for registration must be Ghanaian, at least 18 years old, of sound mind and possess a valid Ghana Card.
The NIA called on parents, guardians, school authorities, traditional leaders and other stakeholders in the Northern Region to support the exercise to ensure that all eligible children are captured.
