Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Herty Borngreat has revealed that she faced intense criticism and opposition from some members of the gospel music fraternity after featuring Ghanaian circular artistes Sarkodie and Trigmatic on her gospel songs.

Speaking in an interview on Max FM with Kumi Kasa, the award-winning singer recounted the challenges she encountered when the collaborations were first released. According to her, many people within the gospel music industry questioned her decision to work with artistes who were primarily known for secular music.

Herty Borngreat disclosed that the criticism was not limited to fans and industry observers, as some of her fellow gospel musicians also openly disapproved of the move. She noted that the backlash was overwhelming at the time, with many doubting whether such collaborations were appropriate for a gospel artiste.

Despite the negative reactions, the gospel singer said she remained resolute and refused to be discouraged. She explained that she strongly believed the collaborations were inspired by God and therefore felt confident in her decision.

“I was criticized a lot when the songs came out. Even some gospel artistes were against it, but I was not discouraged because I believed God gave me the inspiration to work with them,” she stated.

According to Herty Borngreat, the passage of time has vindicated her decision. She observed that collaborations between gospel musicians and secular artistes have become more common in recent years, a trend that was once frowned upon by many within the industry.

The singer expressed satisfaction with the current state of the gospel music scene, noting that several gospel artistes are now embracing similar partnerships without facing the level of criticism she endured years ago.
