Isaac Ekpo expects to be back in contention for another world title shot after strolling to victory and annexing both Commonwealth and WBO Africa Super Middleweight belts in the process.
Backed by a vociferous crowd that included the Chief of Nigerian Youths in Ghana and renowned Nigerian action movie hero, Hanks Anuku, Ekpo pummeled his opponent all night long to win every single round on the scorecards of all three judges.
120-108, 120-108, 120-108 judges Frederick Ghartey, Shadrack Acquaye and May Mensah Akakpo all scored it for Ekpo alias Grenade who challenged Robert Stieglitz for the WBO world Super Middleweight title, albeit unsuccessfully in Germany last year.
'I am very grateful to God for winning these titles, I also appreciate the hardwork of my manager and promoter, Anthony Kermah and all my fans and Nigerians who came here to support me today. This is the beginning and I look forward to another world title shot soon,' Ekpo said right in the ring after getting decorated with his new titles.
It was the first time fight action had gone to the Volta Regional at the Aborigines Beach Resort in Keta whose owner, Mr. Michigan promised to make it a regular event in the months and years to come.
Another fight to deliver thrill and excitement on the 7-fight bill which was also preceded by exhibition bouts was the WBC International Silver Bantamweight championship featuring Togolese Fatiou Fassinou against Felix Williams of Ghana.
The close bout also travelled 12 rounds with Fassinou claiming a majority points' decision following a 114 -114, 119 -109, 116 -112 verdict by the three ringside judges in a fight supervised by Dr. Peter Ngatane of South Africa.
World title chasing Maxwell Awuku took just three rounds to see off the challenge of Nicholas Malik Serouna in their scheduled 10-round Super Featherweight contest after Serouna failed to answer the bell for round 4.
Michael Ofei Dodoo was crowned the new Ghana Lightweight champion after winning 118-11 on all three scorecards for a unanimous victory over Odarlai Lamptey.
In other fights, Maxwell Amponsah AKA Black Wolf secured a round 2 TKO win over John Dugu in a Cruiserweight contest whilst Abdul Malik Jabir's Super Featherweight clash against Jonathan Yartey was ruled a technical draw after Yartey sustained a shoulder injury in round 3 of their billed 10-rounder.
