Enoch Owusu shined at Ghana's biggest spectacle in golf after amazing successes dating to his Captain's Prize and the Presidents Cup victories at TCGC. He kept the winning buzz with a jaw dropping victory at the Tema Open and reminded everyone that he was poised to clinch the Ghana Open at the Celebrity Golf Club. And yes! He did.
With three giant sponsors that included telecommunication favorites MTN, Interplast and Gold Fields Gh. Ltd, the 80th Open was not only the biggest spectacle, but will sure remain the best for its staggering success. Owusu is proud to share in this success after a superb show among a solid field in the Men Group A.
To wits, Owusu is on a phenomenal run. Contending with a fierce golf course and strong wind throughout, he shot an appreciable 221 gross for first place finish after a three-day golf battle.
On the final day, Owusu struggled for bogey on hole one, rolled in for pars on holes two, three and four before sinking birdie on hole 5. A long putt for eagle on par-5 sixth was exciting as well as a big relief.
“I was heavily worried that I made bogeys on my first two rounds on this particular hole (hole 5),” he continued, adding, “I had sleepless night on Saturday and thought out a game plan; I approached the hole on Sunday very relaxed; my second shot saw the green and I then made a long putt for eagle.” He said with a huge sigh of relief. He received a stunning trophy, Blackberry and pen for his prize.
Kumasi based Maxwell Owusu Bonsu played some very good golf punctuated by a few challenges for second place finish on a gross score of 227. He beat Yao Dogbe into third place on same score of 227.
In the Ladies Division, Jessica Tei built a strong lead on a score of 170 after series of pars and bogeys during the two-day competition. Coming off the Tema Open victory, Jessica is more determined to outshine the field at the impending Accra Open.
Mona Miles-Lamptey followed second whiles CAL Invitational winner, Beatrice Vetsch Bempong trailed third place.
Chris Apau Oppong scored 39 net for first place in the Seniors' category. Gyimah Kwakye on 221 net for Men Group B, whiles N. Shettin managed 217 net score for Men Group C.
Prizes doled out to winners included magnificent trophies, mobile phones, weekend treats at the plush Movenpick Ambassador's Suites and Sankofa Restaurant. The rest were pen drives, pens, umbrella, lunch bags.
In the pros category, Emos Korblah emerged winner total score of 275, Vincent Torgah (288) and S. K Klah (290). Whiles Alfred Quarshie made up for Junior (BOYS), and Dorothy Amoakwa for Junior (GIRLS).
