Dr Nana Yaw Adutwum, Head of Research for the United Party, has called on the government to publicly disclose the location where former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, is being held following her extradition to Ghana.
His call follows the return of Madam Tamakloe from the United States on June 9, 2026, to begin serving a 10 year prison sentence imposed by the Accra High Court.
Government officials have confirmed that upon her arrival, she was handed over to the police and prison authorities for the execution of her sentence.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, June 13, Dr Adutwum stressed the importance of transparency in the handling of the case, arguing that Ghanaians have a right to know where the former MASLOC boss is serving her sentence.
According to him, publicly identifying the correctional facility where Madam Tamakloe is being held would reinforce confidence in the government's anti-corruption agenda and demonstrate accountability in the management of high profile corruption cases.
“The most important thing we have to see is to ensure proper accountability. We don’t know where she is. Ghanaians would like to know her whereabouts. The government should communicate to us the exact prison facility she is in. This will enhance the government’s fight against corruption,” he stated.
Madam Tamakloe was extradited from the United States after being convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. Her return forms part of efforts by Ghanaian authorities to enforce the court's ruling.
She arrived at the Accra International Airport on Tuesday, June 9, aboard United Airlines Flight UA 996, which landed at about 9:01 a.m. after departing from Washington Dulles International Airport in the United States.
Sources familiar with the process indicated that she was received by security officials upon arrival and taken into custody. She subsequently underwent debriefing and medical examinations in line with standard procedures before being transferred to begin serving her sentence.
