Former Accra Hearts of Oak board member, Isaac Tetteh, popularly known as "TT Brothers", has predicted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the United States and Canada will produce several unexpected results and memorable surprises.
Speaking on Metro TV's Sports Show, the football enthusiast said the expanded global tournament would be one of the most exciting World Cups in recent history due to the growing competitiveness among nations.
According to Tetteh, the rapid evolution of football means traditional powerhouses can no longer take victories for granted, as smaller nations now possess players capable of competing at the highest level.
"Football has changed significantly over the years. It should not surprise anyone if some of the biggest football nations lose to countries that were previously considered underdogs. Likewise, some of the world's biggest stars may fail to perform, while relatively unknown players emerge as tournament heroes," he said.
The bankroller of Division One side Pure Joy FC noted that technological innovations, scientific advancements and modern coaching methods have transformed the game, narrowing the gap between established football giants and emerging nations.
He expressed confidence that Ghana's Black Stars would be among the teams to make headlines at the tournament, insisting that the four-time African champions have the potential to exceed expectations.
"The Black Stars will be part of the history of this World Cup. Ghana will cause a big sensation. Whenever there is little hope for Ghana, that is when the team tends to perform best. People will be shocked by what Ghana can achieve at this tournament," he stated.
Tetteh also welcomed FIFA's decision to expand the tournament from 32 to 48 teams, describing it as a positive development for global football. He praised the increased African representation, with 10 teams from the continent participating in the competition.
Ghana will begin its campaign on June 17 in Toronto, Canada, against Panama before taking on England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia during the group stage.
Meanwhile, FIFA has significantly increased the tournament's prize money package, with the eventual winners set to receive $50 million.
