Ashgold beat rivals New Edubiase at Obausi
February 07, 2010
Obuasi, Feb. 7, GNA - Obuasi Ashgold relied on their rich experience to beat New Edubiase United 2-1 in their local derby of the Premier League match played at the Obuasi Len Clay sports stadium on Sunday.
New Edubiase were the first to score after playing a determine game right from kick off when Seidu Bansi converted a spot kick in the 10th minute after Nana Yaw Afriyie had handled the ball in his box.
Ashgold who seemed undaunted by the early set back managed to level up the scores four minutes later through Frederick Quayson to end the first half at par.
The 'Miners' in the second half raised the tempo of their game plan and succeeded in taking the lead in the 50th minute from Emmanuel Adjetey's beautiful free kick which was taken just outside the Edubiase goal area.
Edubiase after the goal mounted sustained pressure on Ashgold but all the chances that came their way were either saved by keeper Fatau Dauda or the strikers shot wide out of target.
Charles Vadis of Edubiase was shown the red card in the 82nd minute by referee Samuel Gyasi for a second bookable offence.
