Former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been arrested over an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Accra Regional Police Command has said.
In a statement, police said the alleged threat was made on Monday, 24 August 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which the 46-year-old is alleged to have threatened Mr Ampofo Ankrah.
Police said Ayitey Powers is in custody and assisting with investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command said inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat.
It added that any action taken would be in accordance with the law once investigations are complete.
Police also urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information while the investigation continues.
