Accra Hearts of Oak board member Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has revealed that the club has begun the process of appointing a new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 football season.

The Phobians are currently without a substantive coach after parting ways with Mas-Ud Didi Dramani following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Dr. Tamakloe explained that the decision to make a change in the technical area was driven by the club’s desire to appoint a coach who can transform the team’s style of play and restore the hunger for success among the players.

Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, the Hearts board member said the next coach must introduce an attacking philosophy and ensure the team becomes more productive in front of goal.

“The Board of Directors has decided to let the former coach go, and they are making preparations for a new coach to come. We want a coach who will teach the boys how to be hungry for goals,” he said.

“We cannot be defending all the time. We must change our style of play,” he added.

According to Dr. Tamakloe, Hearts of Oak have quality players but have struggled due to their inability to score enough goals consistently, a problem that has prevented the club from challenging at the highest level.

“We have footballers, but I can see that some of them are not giving us the goals that will help us move higher. We are always finding ourselves in the middle ground,” he stated.

He admitted that the team’s recent performances have fallen short of expectations, with the club failing to reflect the standards associated with its rich history.

“Most of our so-called wins were very minimal. Apart from that, we either drew or lost. How we did not get to the level we wanted is surprising to some of us,” Dr. Tamakloe explained.

The veteran football administrator also recalled the dominance of Hearts of Oak in previous years, when the club was admired for its attacking football and ability to score goals.

“When I was a young boy, even in primary school, Hearts of Oak was such a wonderful and strong club. When they played football, the question was not whether Hearts had won or lost, but how many goals they would score,” he recalled.

Dr. Tamakloe believes the club’s reputation as one of Ghana’s biggest football institutions requires a return to its traditional identity and winning mentality.

“The club is too popular, and we are not like that. We must bring back the identity of Hearts of Oak,” he stressed.

The Phobians will now focus on finding a coach capable of reviving the team’s fortunes and leading the club into a new era ahead of the upcoming season.
