2026 World Cup: I am not perturbed missing out on Black Stars squad - Frederick Asare

Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare has insisted he was not disappointed after being left out of Ghana's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that the players selected deserved their places in the team.

The shot-stopper, who featured four times for Durban City FC in South Africa during the 2025/26 season, said he accepted the decision and remains focused on continuing his development at club level.

Speaking in an interview with Nhyira FM, Asare expressed his support for the goalkeepers chosen to represent the Black Stars at the tournament.

“I wasn’t worried about missing the World Cup call-up because I feel those who got in deserve it more," he said.

His remarks come at a time of intense competition for places in Ghana's national team, particularly in the goalkeeping department, where several players have been pushing for selection.

Among those competing for a spot is Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, whom Frederick Asare praised for his qualities between the posts.

“Benjamin Asare's strengths are his aerial ability and calmness in post.”

Despite missing out on football's biggest tournament, Asare remains optimistic about his future with the national team.

He stressed the importance of patience, hard work and consistency, believing future opportunities will come if he continues to perform well for his club.

The former Kotoko goalkeeper's positive reaction highlights his determination to keep working towards earning another chance with the Black Stars in the years ahead.
