Mining magnate Ibrahim Mahama has made a major financial commitment to Ghana’s 2026 World Cup preparations, with his company, Engineers & Planners, pledging $5 million as the headline sponsor of the national fundraising campaign.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held on Friday at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, where stakeholders gathered to outline plans for supporting the Black Stars ahead of the global tournament.
The initiative is designed to mobilise resources to meet the logistical, technical, and training demands required for competition at the highest level. Engineers & Planners’ contribution stands out as one of the most significant private-sector injections into Ghanaian football in recent years.
The Mahama family’s continued involvement underscores its long-standing influence in the development of sports in the country, with this latest gesture expected to strengthen Ghana’s readiness for the tournament to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Drawn in Group L, Ghana will face England, Croatia, and Panama in what promises to be a challenging campaign for the Black Stars.
The sponsorship is also set to ease the financial burden on the Ghana Football Association as it finalises its World Cup strategy.
Government, meanwhile, is aiming to raise a total of $30 million to fully fund Ghana’s participation at the tournament.
