The immediate past President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, who served for eight years, officially handed over key documents, assets, and sporting kits used during the Olympic and Commonwealth Games to the newly elected President, Mr. Richard Akpokavie.
The handover took place during a brief but significant ceremony held Tuesday morning at the Olympic House in Ridge, Accra.
In his remarks, Mr. Nunoo Mensah encouraged the incoming leadership to build on the foundations laid by his administration, highlighting the importance of continuing projects such as the OlympiAfrica initiative at Amasaman. He congratulated the new team and wished them success in their tenure.
Prior to the formal transition, the former Treasurer, Mr. Frederick Acheampong, handed over all financial records and assets to the new Treasurer, Mr. Evans Yeboah.
Mr. Akpokavie, in his acceptance speech, pledged to uphold and enhance the legacy inherited from his predecessor. He called for unity and support from the GOC Board, sports federations, and the media to elevate Ghanaian sports and the work of the Committee.
Newly appointed Secretary General, Mr. Mohammed Muniru, also expressed gratitude to Mr. Nunoo Mensah and his administration for their dedicated service. He assured that the GOC remains open to their guidance and contributions to further develop sports in Ghana.
The ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Mr. Isaac Duah (former Assistant Treasurer), Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu (1st Vice President), Mr. Ernest Danso (3rd Vice President), Mr. Baba Fuseini (Deputy Secretary General), Mr. Nii Lante Bannerman (Assistant Treasurer), and Mr. Kamal Sulley (new Board Member).
