The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that the government has settled all outstanding arrears owed to the contractor executing works on the Tema Motorway project, paving the way for faster completion of the critical road infrastructure.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, June 17, Mr. Agbodza assured Members of Parliament that the government currently owes the contractor no outstanding payments under the project contract.

He explained that settling the arrears formed part of government's efforts to remove financial bottlenecks that often impede the timely execution of major infrastructure projects.

“On record, the Motorway contract is ongoing and as of this morning, we don’t owe the contractor any amount of money. All outstanding claims have been settled. We will endeavour to continue to encourage the contractors working on this project to hurry up,” he stated.

The Minister noted that with all financial obligations cleared, the contractor is expected to intensify work and accelerate progress on the project.

The Tema Motorway remains one of Ghana's most important transport corridors, serving as a major link between Accra and the industrial city of Tema while also facilitating trade and movement along the eastern corridor towards neighbouring Togo.

The highway plays a vital role in the transportation of goods, supports activities at the Tema Port, and contributes significantly to regional trade and economic integration within the West African sub region.

Mr. Agbodza further urged the contractor to increase activity on site and ensure steady progress, stressing that government expects visible improvements in the pace of work following the settlement of all outstanding claims.

The assurance comes amid growing public interest in the completion of the motorway expansion and rehabilitation works, which are expected to ease traffic congestion and improve transportation efficiency along one of the country's busiest road networks.
