Thomas Partey is set to become a free agent at the end of June after Villarreal CF decided not to activate the one-year extension option in his contract.
The Ghana international joined Villarreal on a short-term deal in the summer of 2025 following his departure from Arsenal F.C.
The agreement included an option for the Spanish side to extend his stay by another season, but the club has now opted against triggering that clause.
As a result, Partey will leave Villarreal once his current contract expires later this month, making him available on the free-agent market.
The decision comes at a significant moment in his career, with the midfielder currently on international duty with the Ghana national football team at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Partey was unavailable for Ghana’s opening World Cup match against Panama after Canadian authorities denied him entry into the country.
