Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil has issued a heartfelt apology to the Ghanaian community following the team's inability to advance to the second round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d'Ivoire.
Expressing remorse on his X (formerly Twitter) page, the swift winger acknowledged the disappointment felt by Ghanaians as Cameroon secured their qualification with a 3-2 victory over The Gambia, confirming Ghana's elimination.
Ghana failed to secure a victory in any of its three group stage matches in Group B, concluding its AFCON journey with just two points – marking the second consecutive group stage exit.
Joseph Paintsil, who garnered attention for his pointed response to former Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton's comments about his fatigue during Ghana's 2-2 draw with Mozambique, saw Hughton subsequently being relieved of his coaching duties.
Reflecting on Ghana's unfulfilling campaign after an impressive display in Cote D'Ivoire, the former Tema Youth player took to his X page to convey his regrets: "Sincere apologies to the good people of Ghana. We are truly sorry for not meeting your expectations. Important lessons to take away from this unforgettable experience."
He went on to express gratitude for the support received during the team's challenging moments, saying, "Thank you for coming through with your support in our low moments."
