Tiktok activist ‘mama one’ granted Gh¢50,000 bail over alleged offensive remarks about Mahama

TikTok activist Rita Konadu, popularly known as Mama One, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties after appearing before a court over allegations that she made offensive remarks about President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama on social media.

The 49-year-old mother of four, who hails from Juaben in the Ashanti Region, was arrested by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Ghana Police Service following investigations into videos allegedly posted on TikTok in which she made derogatory comments about the President and the First Lady. Authorities say the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to investigate and prosecute individuals accused of publishing threatening or offensive content on social media.

At her court appearance on Wednesday, the court admitted her to bail while investigations continue. She is expected to comply with all bail conditions and make herself available to investigators whenever required. According to reports, the case has been adjourned to August 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

Moments after leaving the courtroom, Mama One declared her loyalty to her political party, telling journalists, "I'll die for my party. God is my witness," before her lawyer stepped in and advised her to stop speaking to the media. The statement has since generated widespread public discussion on social media.

Police allege that some of the remarks made in the videos included insulting comments directed at President Mahama and the First Lady. Investigators are continuing to examine the content as part of the ongoing case.

Mama One is reportedly the third individual to be brought before the courts in connection with alleged offensive remarks targeting President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama, as law enforcement intensifies its crackdown on abusive political content shared on social media platforms.
