Ahead of the start of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pressure is mounting on Ghana head coach Chris Hughton.
This follows the two defeats of the Black Stars in the October international break.
Having lost 2-0 to Mexico last Saturday, Ghana on Wednesday morning locked horns with the USA in hopes of bouncing back to winning ways.
Unfortunately, for Chris Hughton and his charges, things went from bad to worse.
A disastrous first-half performance coupled with terrible school boys defending saw the Black Stars being mauled by their USA counterparts.
Just 10 minutes into the first half, the hosts took the lead thanks to a thumping effort from Giovani Reyna who was given time and space to run into the Ghana area.
Later in the 19th minute, Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah gave away a penalty, gifting Christian Pulisic the chance to double the lead for the USA from 12 yards.
With Ghana’s defense unable to step up, the USA got a third through Folarin Balogun when new boy Jerome Opoku slipped and gave the ball away.
Five minutes before the first half break, Giovanni Reyna got his second of the day to give USA a huge 4-0 lead to take into the break.
With no goals in the second half, the Black Stars could only thank their stars as the home fans celebrated their country’s third win over Ghana.
Two defeats from two games in the October international break certainly put pressure on Ghana coach Chris Hughton ahead of the first round of games in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in November.
