West Ham United teammates Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez, who had previously been on the same side at Ajax, met on the football field as opponents during the international friendly between Ghana and Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina.
The match ended with Alvarez's Mexico securing a 2-0 victory over the Black Stars, thanks to a strong second-half performance.
Hirving Lozano opened the scoring for Mexico in the 57th minute, courtesy of a quick set-piece by West Ham midfielder Alvarez. Uriel Antuna sealed the victory with Mexico's second goal in the 72nd minute.
Kudus, who represented the Black Stars, played the entire duration of the match, showcasing his skills and dedication on the pitch.
In contrast, Alvarez was replaced late in the game, as both players displayed their talents and commitment to their respective national teams.
However, the real highlight of the evening occurred after the final whistle.
Alvarez and Kudus shared a few words and exchanged jerseys, demonstrating the deep bond and mutual respect that has endured since their days at Ajax.
This heartwarming exchange underscored the unique connections forged through the beautiful game of football.
Both players have since joined West Ham United during the summer transfer window, making their reunion as teammates at the Premier League club all the more special.
Ghana is set to face the United States in Nashville on October 17, while Mexico will take on Germany on the same day.
