The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah, has urged the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, to pay closer attention to criticism and differing views regarding the institution’s operations.
Mr. Amoah said GoldBod’s management must take stakeholder concerns seriously as discussions over the board’s performance intensify. He noted that engaging constructively with opposing views would help the institution identify challenges and improve its operations.
“But if you listen more sometimes, you become a better person,” he said.
Speaking on The Big Issues on Channel One TV on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Mr. Amoah stressed that the GoldBod CEO would be better positioned to enhance the institution’s performance by acknowledging perspectives that challenge his own.
“I would hope that after maybe the engagements this weekend, they will get back to work, roll up their sleeves, wherever they are getting funding from,” he added.
His comments come amid a heated debate over GoldBod’s financial performance, following claims by the Minority that the institution has incurred losses of about $1.7 billion.
Mr. Gyamfi has strongly rejected the allegation, insisting that GoldBod has made profits—not losses—and describing the Minority Leader’s claim as a “barefaced lie.”
Mr. Amoah said the disagreement should not stop GoldBod’s leadership from considering criticism as part of efforts to strengthen the institution. He emphasized that management would ultimately benefit from listening to stakeholder concerns, even when those views contradict its own position.
